Today’s How To Guide comes to you courtesy of Syahrul Riduan, a highly talented Hot Wheels customiser from Malacca, the historical city in Malaysia. As you will soon see, Syahrul has taken his custom work well beyond the rhelm of just roof racks and what he shows us today will give you the skills to create whatever your imagination can come up with really.

How To Make Roof Racks for Hot Wheels Diecast Cars
Syahrul has kindly provided not only the images but also the accompanying steps. I have provided additional details and/or information where necessary.
Obviously this was a typo, although if you can find some Viking Pliers then all the power to you 😉
This is now your framework from which you will build up your roof rack. Obviously for some of the more advanced roof racks that you will soon see Syahrul has created a base to suit. Same principle regardless of what sort of rack you are making.
Whether you choose to have these cross bars sit flush or on top is up to you and the style of roof rack you are trying to achieve. Cut the cross bar lengths accordingly.
*Great Tip Syahrul!
Basically: Use a pen to mark out where the cross bars meet the frame (these pen marks will be covered by solder and/or can easily be wiped clean with acetone)
Then use a file to roughen each end of the cross bars.
Now let’s give our roof rack some depth…
*File each end as you did with the cross bars above.
And Just like that you have a stunning looking roof rack to compliment your Custom piece.
Don’t Have a Soldering Iron?
You can also use Superglue to join the pieces together. This is just as effective albeit ten times messier. You can still use a file to wipe off the excess glue once it has dried although it can stain the metal of the paperclip. Soldering is also a much stronger method so keep that in mind when working with the glue option.
