The First Gluten Free Custom Hot Wheels
I won’t bore you with the finer details as this creation really does speak for itself. It’s uniquely odd yet crazy cool – like an octopus playing tennis – and yet when it came to naming her I was fresh out of creative ideas and had to give her a name based on the chassis, model and manufacturer code. Boring!
It is therefore kinda sorta my pleasure to introduce the first custom Hot Wheels creation to cater to those with Celiac disease as well as all those hipster loving band wagoneers who think eating tofu in crocheted underpants while taking photos of the next table’s field mushroom is totes righteous. Bruh.
What Do You Get When You Cross a Bread Box With a Kool Kombi?
To get to the other side! …
The GLu-10 Free Wheeler is a combination of a Hot Wheels Bread Box and the always awesome Kool Kombi castings – joined in such a way as to create a Targa roof. Now when I checked the chassis and model numbers for this particular combination I noted them as being GL.u – with the ‘u’ indicating the addition of a Targa roof. The GLu is available in 3 model variants:
- 10 – Rear Wheel Drive
- 14 – All Wheel Drive
- 14e – All Wheel Drive Electric
The version I seem to have created is the Rear Wheel Drive version, or 10 as they so creatively refer to it. This of course means the front wheels spin freely – the only model in the series to do so – which has given it the street name of ‘Free Wheeler’
Here’s a few Work-In-Progress pics so as to get a better look at the two castings and how they were joined. You’ll notice that once I cut the roof off of the Bread Box I then (gently) bent the windscreen back so as to create a sharper more streamlined angle.
The GLu-10 Free Wheeler therefore is less a name and more of a ‘Factory code’ – and for my lack of creativity in this area I humbly apologise. I am ashamed.
But let’s not be ashamed – not when there’s an octopus playing tennis, I mean a half Kool Kombi half Bread Box custom creation to admire 🙂
