Every 2nd 8th!?! week we highlight the work of one individual customizer and share their best custom diecast builds for you to enjoy.

It’s time to shine a light on some extraordinary talent within the custom Hot Wheels community. It’s time for…

THE CUSTOMISER SPOTLIGHT

This week I am introducing you to a man who probably needs no introduction because not only is he one of the most talented customizers out there, he’s also an all round nice guy (real ridgy didge and fair dinkum’ sorta fella). His name is Justin Shubert but you probably know him as @1uzShoob on Instagram or have seen his epic work via the #Shubbuilt hashtag.

I’ve known Justin via Facebook for some time now and have long admired his craftsmanship and overall badassery when it comes to his custom Hot Wheels creations. And I’m not the only one who thinks so because Mr Shubert has won more custom competitions on Facebook (and Instagram for that matter) than anyone else, hands down – no argument, end of story. As such it was a no-brainer when it came to who I should harass invite to be spotlighted(eded) next. Justin was honored and humbled (as genuinely nice people usually are) and so it gives me great pleasure to formally introduce Justin ‘Shoob’ Shubert and welcome his most awesome work to the pages of MCH – not for the first time mind you, with his customs making regular appearances in ‘Your Custom Hot Wheels’

Justin Shubert aka @1uzShoob

How long have you been customising Hot Wheels and diecast cars?

About 16 months now.

How or What Got You Interested in Hot Wheels in the First Place?

Started doing simple wheel swaps and re-cards for my personal collection, from there i started also doing some detail additions with paint. Eg:

And How Long Before You Turned From Collector to Customiser?

I’ve collected hot wheels most of my life, starting with my father buying at a young age. He wasn’t an avid collector, but collected different sets.
I started officially collecting for myself in 2011, collecting sets like “muscle mania”, and “hotwheels racing”.

Do wanna give mention to the ones that got me into customizing: @78toy4dr (Chris Huntley) the first custom i had ever seen, after that it was Rich (@layn720) then i found guys like Hadi (Madworxkustom), Sharon Tarshish, and Mr Whalley (hey that’s me 🙂 ). Back when i first started, I have to give a huge up to Chris @78toy4dr as well for giving me a clue on some techniques, and supplies to get me started.

Can You Share a Little More About Yourself (Let’s Go Deep Bro)

I am 32 years old, recently divorced (thanks Hot Wheels!!! Haha, literally played a role in her jealousy) currently re-engaged (to a wonderful women, Megan, who supports my healthy addiction). I have 4 children, oldest is my biological son, andrew at 8 years old who resides with his mother. Next is my (step? My fiance’s) daughter, kelsie who is 7 years old and resides with us. After that is my youngest biological son elijah whome resides with me and is 6 years old. And zoey, my adopted daughter whome is 5 years old and resides with her mother. Im a literal jack of all trades, ive built firetrucks, ive worked in jap performance shops, im proficient in the commercial refrigeration industry, and so much more. Personal interest are: avid AE86 enthusiest (even have built a mag cover/feature 86: http://s3mag.com/blog/viva-hood/ ,im also into minitruckin’ i have a static 93 s10 ext cab reflector collector, and am an all around avid motorsports, car enthusiast.

Where do you call home?

Home is Atlanta, GA, USA

What is your favourite casting from Hot Wheels?

There are so many castings I enjoy, it’s hard to choose just one!. But id have to go with the 83′ Silverado, becauseI am a Chevy guy and they’re a very versatile casting; easily made into crew cabs, cab only, duallys, can be lifted, lowered, stretched, shortened, chopped, and very large square canvas to do what ever you wish.

What sort of customs do you like doing the most?

I cant say i have a favorite “style”, except realistic. I push my self for realism in my builds. Whether its a midnight otto turbed show rod, a pebble pushing silverado, or a articulating fj40 crawler, they all have to have those realistic details to me.

Do you have a Favorite Custom? Why?

Its hard to pick a favorite, because, i have Adult ADD, so i always push to have more detail, to go a little wilder, and a little further with each custom thats next. my favorite 2 months ago has most likely been superseded by one ive completed recently. I find it hard to complete 1 custom at a time because ill be working on 1 and so many ideas and thoughts will rush into my head, ill have to pull out another casting, and try to apply those separate thoughts to it to keep the current one on track. I do like building haulers, nothing is cooler than something you built, being displayed on something you’ve built, lol.

*Alex here, (hi) had to quickly chime in here and say Adult ADHD FTW!! LOL. This manic restless creativity that comes with having ADHD is clearly a good thing in the customizing world and Justin, I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about re: the whole too many ideas at once thing bro!

Where and How can people see more of your work?

Most of my work is on Instagram. You can find me @1uzshoob, and also under #shubbuilt. I occasionally post on facebook in Mycustomhotwheels, and Unibobber customs. Both most excellent pages ran by the best of guys in this hobby. I tend to keep my Facebook more focused on my world of real cars, friends from within, and family. So Instagram is my channel for my custom hobby.

Thank you so much for allowing us into your life Justin, I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to share your work and a little more about the man behind the insane creations you consistently … create :p

What creations? Well…..
