Shining the Light on Extraordinary Talent in the 1/64 Custom Diecast Community…
It’s that time again – a collective favourite of not just us (well, just me but shhhh) here at MCH but for all our readers – at least that’s what you guys keep telling me 🙂
That’s right, it’s time to shine the spotlight on one exceptional customizer in our ever growing community and an opportunity to not just ogle all the amazing creations but also to learn a little more about the customiser behind those afore mentioned creations. Today it gives me great pleasure to introduce a bloke who probably doesn’t need any introduction, not if you are on Instagram and follow all the ‘cool peeps’ (insert eye roll and long groan) – today we here at MCH shine the spotlight on Rob Koro aka @Koro_Kustoms
The Customiser Spotlight Featuring Rob Koro @Koro_Kustoms
Can you tell me a little about yourself so I may introduce you properly…
My name is Robert but my street name is Pee Wee, just kidding I have no street name 🙂 I love fast cars and loud pipes, have had a need for speed since I was a kid.
How long have you been customising hotwheels and diecast cars?
A little over two years, I will attach a picture of my first car. I started customizing a little after my dad passed away and have just been trying to learn as much as I can from the community and even some from your site!
How or What Got You Interested in Hot Wheels in the First Place?
I have always been a car lover, and love custom cars big or small. When I got my first real car I had to spray paint a design on the headlights and a few other things to make it different. I don’t want any of my cars looking like the factory version because that’s just boring.
And How Long Before You Turned From Collector to Customiser?
Not sure if me collecting as a kid counts, lol. As an adult I started customizing about 4-5 months after I found my first super treasure hunt. That’s when sh** got real.
How old are you and what’s your family status – married? kids? serial killer on the run?
I’m 34 years old but sadly my serial killing days are over. I’m married and have 3 kids (2 girls and one boy).
Where (in the world) do you call home?
I live north of Houston, but I grew up in Tucson Arizona.
What is your favourite casting from hotwheels?
Very very tough question. That’s like asking which kid is your favorite! If I had to narrow it down I’d say the 55 Gasser. That’s the first casting that I believe put me on the map. I wasn’t the first to drop them but I was only one of maybe a couple that have done this before at the time. Now they are everywhere but still very challenging to get it right.
What sort of customs do you like doing the most?
Mainly slamming cars down to the ground (making sure they still roll) and sports cars with turbo’s ?
EDITOR NOTE – I have to add my 2 cents because when it comes to creating amazing turbos and Porsche/Euro customs with asses larger than a Kardashian Rob definitely….(wait for it)… sNAILS IT!
Do you have a favourite? Why? A favorite custom?
This is even worse than the favorite casting. It’s funny because this changes frequently for me, I guess because I keep pushing boundaries. Currently it’s either one of my Yagermeister 993’s. (I would have to agree – sorry me again, shuttng up now :p )
Where and How can people see more of your work?
All my content can be seen on Instagram @koro_kustoms or you can check the hashtag #korokustoms -> And make sure you do/are guys – Rob’s work is exceptional
Custom Hot Wheels & Diecast Cars by @Koro_Kustoms
These customs are in no particular order except for the first one which was well, his first one 🙂 – Great patina and detailing Rob, I can see why you kept at it 😉
Thanks again to Rob Koro for sharing some of his customs and himself with us today – it’s always nice to get to know the people behind the customs we drool over every time we visit Instagram. Am I right or am I right?
And of course if you are not following @Koro_kustoms on instagram then get over there and change that right now! In the meantime, keep on customizing my diecast brethren (y)
